Weekly Movie Review: Akeelah and the Bee

I know I know, you're thinkin' "Why should I watch a flick about a spelling bee."

Well, My answer, 'cause it's good.

Akeelah and the Bee, is about an eleven year old girl, who grows up in a "'hood" and goes to a school that can barely afford money for kickballs.
She is asked to enter a spelling bee since she is a spelling wiz (but not necessarily an "A" student, due to skipping class) and might make a name for Crenshaw Middle School.
She is reluctant, but eventually gives in.

The rest of the movie is about the process of going to the national spelling bee, which involves making new friends, lying to her mom, getting a spelling coach, hurting old friends, and bringing a neighborhood (and a family) together. :_)

Weekly Movie Review: Charlotte's Web

charlottes-web.jpg I saw this one a couple weeks ago and I thought it was really good.

I'm sure you all know the plot, (and if you have never read charlotte's web there is something very wrong with you, and you should, no, NEED to stop whatever you're doing and go the library right now. No make that Barnes and Nobel.)

For the people who don't know, (and haven't LEFT YET!>:/) I will make this very simple.

A runty pig gets spared by a young farm girl, Fern, (Dakota Fanning) and moves to her uncles farm across the street. He learns thet they are going to eat him for Christmas. But Charlotte the spider, (Julia Roberts) decides to save him.

It's filled with great voices. (John Cleese, Oprah Winfrey, Steve Buscemi, Julia Roberts, ect.)
Good for all ages.

Weekly Movie Review: Night at The Museum

Wednesday I saw night at the museum. I thought it was really good.

It's about a divorced dad (Ben Stiller)who has a ten year old son, and needs a job.
He gets one at the museum of natural history as the new night guard.
Little does he know that there's an ancient tablet that brings everything to life at night! Soon he'll be playing fetch with a T-rex, chatting with Theador Roosevelt,(Robin Williams) breaking up fights between Jedadiah (Owen Willson) and Octavius (Steve Coogan) and runnig away from the Huns. But when the tablet gets stolen will he be able to save it and the exhibits?
Good for all ages, especially good father son flick.

P.S. Stay through most of credits to see Mickey Rooney and Dick Van Dike boogie down. :)

burning tree plaza

It all started when I asked my dad on a car ride back from Best Buy, "Why is it called Burning Tree Plaza?" Well, we thought about it and this is the only logical explanation...
It was a sign from God. This is how it would have gone...

And the angel Gabriel descended from the heavens, and said, "Do not be afraid. For behold I bring you tidings of great joy. You shall go to the plaza that is near the edge of Duluth but not yet Hermantown and there ye shall find a tree. It will be burning, and yet its branches will mot be consumed by the flames, and this will be a sign unto you. You will build there a shopping center where people can buy: consumer electronics, frabric, and things that cost only a dollar. And you shall call this place Burning Tree Plaza." And with that, the angel flew back into the heavens.
